Western Growers has a business casual dress code policy on Monday through Thursday with casual dress allowed on Fridays. The exception is when an employee is attending a meeting or function where business dress is required. Western Growers’ policy includes:
Appropriate:
- Shirts, collared or non-collared, in good taste and appropriate dress
- Men are required to wear socks at all times
- Women’s skirts at a conservative length
- Dresses or skirts
- Blouses/Shirts
- Blazers
- Vests
- Pants in business suitable fabrics
- Any type of business shoe (heels, flats, etc.)
Inappropriate:
- Tee shirts, sweatshirts, tank tops, concert tees and shirts with large logos or slogans
- Shorts, skorts and culottes
- Mini skirts (anything shorter than two or more inches above the knee)
- Sweats, athletic wear, and jerseys
- Provocative clothing, such as: spandex, cocktail/nightclub wear, halter-tops, and spaghetti straps
- Bare midriffs or backs
- Exposed undergarments of any kind
- Visible body piercing(s), other than the ears
- Hats of any kind
- Any clothes showing signs of wear (frayed or with holes)
- Thong-type sandals
- Denim jeans (exception: Print Shop & Facilities employees)
- Jeans may be permitted by manager/supervisors for special project e.g. clean up days
If employees are working at a company-supported event, the manager/supervisor may approve other appropriate attire. An example is the uniform worn by the Docents when scheduled to work at Centennial Farms.
The following clothes are appropriate on casual days only:
a. Jeans or other denim clothing, without holes
b. Hawaiian prints
c. Tennis Shoes
Not every clothing situation can be addressed in this written policy and each manager/supervisor should address other inappropriate items when presented.
All employees should be considerate of co-workers, members, customers, and guests. Good personal hygiene is a must. Excessive use of perfume and cologne is not permitted due to sensitivity (e.g., allergies, illness) of some people.
Western Growers is confident each employee will use their best judgment in following this policy. This is not an all-inclusive list, thus, management reserves the right to determine appropriateness. A rule of thumb: if unsure an article of clothing is acceptable, most likely it isn't, if in doubt, employees shouldn’t wear it to work or work related functions.
When an employee violates the dress code policy, the manager/supervisor will send the employee home to change into acceptable attire. During this absence the employee may take leave without pay or utilize paid time off (PTO). If an employee is warned or sent home more than once a written warning will be issued and placed in the employee's personnel file. If the dress code policy is violated after the written warning, further action may be taken, up to and including termination.
In addition, the Human Resources Department may announce special dress codes for specific days such as holidays. Those who do not wish to participate are expected to wear standard business attire.
